It has saved me many trips to stand in line at the post office, and I no longer thrown on extra stamps just in case.Today I had the problem that other folks have reported. That is a huge error. They don't last. My unit is the Sunbeam SP5 which I guess must be identical. No discount is big enough to persuade me to buy them again. When I set the Energizer and also a Duracell next to the Ultralast, I could see that the Ultralast was about 3/32 of an inch taller. Ultralast must be where they finished in the quality rankings.
I went to change the Ultralast battery that was in there. No great loss compared to buying a new scale.By the way, I have had very bad luck with Ultralast brand batteries in the AA size. However, the dime prevents me from putting the battery cover back. I had to pry it out. The fit is now tight and the unit works properly.
I have used this little scale for 4 years. So I taped a dime onto the bottom of the Energizer and reinserted it. The unit would not power up. My LCD just read "CAL" and would not calibrate. I put in an Energizer battery, and the fit was loose.
If I put a 10x13 envelope on the scale, it's a challenge seeing the readout. My only complaint is that the readout is too close to the tray. The Pelouze SP5 Scale is a solid, accurate performer. I weigh piece-parts as well as mail with this scale.
I changed the battery with the same result. I've used the product about once or twice a week for about 2 years with no complaints. Like Paul V, end of story. I called customer service (called 2 numbers and spoke to 3 different people to get there) and was told to get a new one. However, I turned it on today, and it will no longer weigh anything. It calibrates and shows the zeroes, but it stays at zero no matter what I put on it.
I'm not happy with that and will look for a different brand to replace it. He then went on to say that it could not be calibrated and "we recommend you buy a new one." End of story. This scale is less than two years old and has been very gently used. I had been very happy with this scale. Then, today, I turned it on and it was reading oddly. I called up customer service, got shunted around a bit, finally got to the right person, who was nice and explained that the behavior meant it was not calibrated.
Small desktop footprint. Simple to use. Reliable. I have been using this scale for over a year now. Nice features.
